Parrot Pot is a self-watering smart pot that accurately detects a plant's needs, making sure it gets everything it requires to survive. Apr 8, 2015 - Meet PLANTY, the Internet-connected SMART POT that gives your plants the unprecedented ability to communicate their needs to you.
Final update: 100k goal reached!! We're proud to announce that we have reached our crowd funding goal of $100K with just hours left on the clock. Thank you to all of our backers!!! Over the past couple of weeks, we have been finalizing production plans, and we anticipate everything will go as planned and that the first batch of Plantys will be delivered in October with subsequent orders delivered in November. Over the next few months, we'll continue to send updates on our progress.
Note that Kickstarter will be processing payments once the campaign ends. If there are any issues with your payment, Kickstarter will be reaching out to resolve. Please keep an eye out for these, as if you do not resolve the issue, Kickstarter will cancel your order.
Also, if you or friends want to order more Plantys, we will continue taking pre-orders on our website at nthing.net/Planty. Thanks again for all your support!!! Over the past few weeks, we've received invaluable feedback about our product.

We have added several of your suggestions to our Product Road Map. You've been awesome collaborators! Thank you, Team Planty!!!! Update Video #1: New Prototyping Video Hey Backers! We made this video to share the Planty prototyping experience with you all.
Thanks for your support! Plants are no different from humans. They breathe, they drink and they require nutrition. However, they can't communicate and tell us what they need, so many dry to a silent death.
Wouldn't it be awesome if you could hear what your plants are desperately trying to tell you? Meet PLANTY, the Internet-connected SMART POT that gives your plants the unprecedented ability to communicate their needs to you. Planty connects to the Internet via Wi-Fi and monitors your plants' soil, temperature, light and water levels. All this data is delivered directly you to via the Planty app on your smartphone so you can react appropriately. For example, if your plant's ambient temperature is too high or too low, Planty will send you an app notification so you can adjust the room temperature or move it to a more appropriate location.
Or if your plant is dry and needs water, you can water it DIRECTLY from your mobile app! Just press a button, and Planty will take care of the rest. Over time, Planty's algorithms enable it to learn more about the perfect conditions for your plant and provides you even better suggestions on how to help it thrive and grow. Grow flowers, herbs, vegetables and more.
With Planty, you get great results every time. You can access all of the unique features of Planty via the dedicated mobile app. We have completed app development for the iOS platform, and the Android version is currently in development. Both versions will be available with the release of Planty.
During the development of Planty, we released an early version of the Planty app under the name 'Life: Smart Gardening Journal.' By releasing the Life app in advance, we were able to test and learn how to improve the user experience for future Planty owners.
The Idea The idea for Planty originates with the founder and CEO of our company, Leo Kim. While studying engineering in college, Leo had the opportunity to join a joint venture to start a greenhouse company in Uzbekistan. While setting up this company, Leo was involved in all aspects of the business, including building the greenhouse and participating in the cultivation. One year, a horticulturist was able to join them in Uzbekistan and the tomato crop flourished. The next, the horticulturist was unable to come out, and the same tomato crop failed. From this experience, Leo saw firsthand why issues like world hunger continue to exist. Plants are delicate and complicated, and it requires an expert to really understand how to make them thrive and grow.
Back in Seoul, Leo joined a government-backed Open IoT Platform development project and had a light-bulb moment. What if technology could be used to automate the intelligence of a horticulturist so he didn't need to be physically present at all times? However to get there, we needed to start with something smaller that gave us the opportunity to test the idea of miniaturizing the technology and lowering the cost. As urbanites who live in one of the most densely populated cities in the world, we realized that the complexity of growing plants is something even city-dwellers face when growing houseplants. Thus - we came up with Planty.
To bring his idea to life, Leo recruited fellow graduates of Hanyang University who had extensive experience in their respective fields of electronics, software development and design. Over the past year, we have pooled our expertise to develop a final working prototype for Planty, funded by earnings from various startup and technology competitions. The ultimate goal for our company is take what we have learned from building Planty for the masses and take it back to Uzbekistan and other countries where low-cost agtech innovation is greatly needed to address issues of hunger and starvation due to low crop yields. Today, we ask you to join us in this mission by supporting Planty and helping us continue on the road to innovate and develop agricultural systems for the future. We are, a South Korean startup based in the Gangnam District of Seoul. We started our company because we believe that technology can help people reconnect with nature and make our world more beautiful. Our first product, 'Life' is a smart gardening journal.
This mobile application helps gardeners to better track and analyze their plants. Our latest product, Planty, aims to help anyone - even city dwellers and gardening newbies - to grow beautiful plants at home and in the office.
In the future, we plan to scale these technologies into hydroponic cultivation systems that can be applied towards mass agriculture. We hope you will join us in this vision and support our Kickstarter project. For more information about our company and team, please visit our website at. Please support our campaign and join us in making this future a reality! Thanks for your support!
Risks and challenges We have already contracted a well-established manufacturing company in Asia that has the necessary expertise to deliver our product. The manufacturer has extensive experience in producing IoT products and has been vetted by our team. However, like every hardware project, we can face production challenges.
Molding and redesigning the hardware for mass production may require unexpected additional costs, which we have some contingency for as we have raised venture capital funding. Also, obtaining certifications, such as FCC or CE can take over 3 months. We have factored some potential delay into our projected delivery date of October 2015, but it is possible for us to incur additional unexpected delays. We have already completed the iOS app for Planty. We are currently in development phase for our Android version, which we are confident in our ability to complete.
